“I will be okay on the other side, will you be okay? Don’t worry, I will always be with you.”

- Jonathan Anthony Leitao.

(December 23, 1997 - September 05, 2014)

In memory of my son

At

12:15

on

the

afternoon

of

September

5th,

2014,

my

sixteen

year

old

son,

Jonathan

Anthony

Leitao

moved

onto

the

next

stage

of

his

eternal

life

at

our

house

in

Richmond

Hill,

Ontario,

Canada.

He

is

eternally

loved

and

lovingly

remembered

by

his

mother

Esperanca

(Espy)

of

Orel,

Assolna,

Goa

father

Vincent

(Vince)

of

Naikavado,

Calangute,

Goa

and

his

brother

Matthew

all

of

whom

currently

live

in

Richmond

Hill,

Ontario,

Canada.

Jonathan’s

aunts,

uncles,

cousins,

grandmother,

his

beloved

dog

Mugzee

and

many

friends

miss him very much.

Jonathan

was

born

on

the

23rd

of

December

1997

in

Scarborough,

Ontario

and

was

a

kind,

patient,

delightful

and

endearing

young

man.

He

loved

travel

and

was

blessed

to

have

travelled

to

more

than

15

different

countries

with

us

and

good

food

was

his

passion

-

he

particularly

enjoyed

pasta

and

steak.

He

enjoyed

basketball

and

stood

in

line

for

hours

to

get

an

autograph

from

his

favourite

players.

Since

October

2013,

Jonathan

had

many

serious

health

challenges,

and

was

eventually

diagnosed

with

a

type

of

liver

cancer

that

is

extremely

uncommon

below

the

age

of

25

years.

For

the

last

10

months

of

his

earthly

life,

he

suffered

bravely

and

patiently,

prayerfully

hoping

for

a

cure,but

eventually

accepted

that

he

is

going

home

after

just

about

16

years

on

this

earth,

and

helped us - his earthly family - accept and let go.

He

adored

his

brother

Matthew

and

dearly

loved

his:

Grandmas

Antonetta

Lopes

and

(Late)

Fremiot

Aguiar

Leitao;

aunts

Maria

Assunta

Leitao,

Blanche

Rozario,

Jessica

Carmo

du

Lobo,

Ana

Dennis

and

Yvette

Chastang

uncles

Allan

Dennis,

Proto

Lopes,

Emmanuel

Chastang,

Mark

Rozario

and

Allen

Carmo

du

Lobo.

His

cousins

Keane

and

Shannon

Denis;

Leo

and

Thibault

Chastang;

Charbelle,

Raquelle

and

Michelle

Carmo

du

Lobo;

Erica,

Veronica

and

Ryan

Rozario

were

his delight.

Though

he

did

not

speak

much,

he

endeared

and

made

a

great

impression

on

all

he

met,

from

family,

friends,

teachers,

caregivers

at

SickKids

hospital

to

the

nurses

and

doctors

that

visited

him

at

his

house.

Jonathan

touched

everyone

with

his

courage,

understanding and wisdom.

With

the

knowledge

that

he

is

now

safe,

happy

and

well

cared

for

in

his

home,

we

pray

for

strength

to

overcome

our feeling of loss and pain.

The

name

Jonathan

is

derived

from

the

hebrew

name

Yonathan

which

means

‘God

given’,

and

in

sanskrit,

the

word for God given is ‘Devdatta’.

About my first Book

Through

the

journey

of

our

life

we

hope

and

pray

for

‘good’

things,

but

sometimes

tragic

events

like

the death of one’s child happen to us. How can we deal with such events?

What can we do when an event is breaking our hearts or frightens us?

In

honour

of

my

son

Jonathan

I

have

written

a

memoir

of

my

journey

with

him

focussing

on

his

last

few

months

with

us

on

earth.

Jonathan,

do

you

know

me

tells

a

personal

story

of

loss

and

grief

transcended

by

a

spiritual

awakening:

a

new

realization

of

God,

self,

life,

death

and

immortality.

If

you

are

walking

or

know

someone

that

is

walking

such

a

journey,

it

is

my

hope

that

this

book

will

enlighten, inspire and comfort you.

May you experience SHANTI - the peace, strength and the love of God as you walk your path.
