According
to
the
theory
of
evolution,
all
life
first
started
in
water.
Matsya - fish
2
.
As
the
water
started
to
recede,
some
of
this
water
based
life
had
to
evolve
to
survive.
The
receding
water
gave
rise
to
land
so
amphibians evolved.
Kurma - turtle
3
.
This
evolution
to
land
based
life
continued
but
it
needed
the
support
of
water
from
which
life
originated.
The
third
stage
is
what lived in marshy conditions.
Varaha - wild boar
4
.
At
this
stage
we
can
see
the
first
appearance
of
modern
day
man,
though
it
is
more
an
animal
than
man.
Narasimha
-
half
animal
half human
5
.
From
here
evolved
a
human
form
though
small
and
still
with
a
reptilian brain.
Vamana - Dwarf
6
.
The
dwarf
evolved
into
a
full
size
human
but
the
intelligence
was
not
developed,
so
it
was
volatile,
unreasonable,
animalistic
and cave-man like.
Parshurama
7
.
As
the
cave
man
began
perfecting
himself
and
developed
control
of the senses assumed responsibility for family, food, etc.
Rama
8
.
This
further
perfected
himself
into
a
being
that
was
intelligent,
kind, witty, loving and compassionate.
Krishna
9
.
This
incarnation
embodied
peace,
kindness,
compassion,
love
and tranquility.
Buddha

The
last
avatar
of
Lord
Vishnu
is
Kalki
,
who
like
the
earlier
avatars
will
break
the
current
mould
of
thinking
and
embody
the
next steps of our growth and evolution.

Some food for thought:
Did you know that the theory of human evolution can be deduced from the Sanskrit
scripture about the incarnations of Lord Vishnu?
